White baneberry grows naturally in rich deciduous woods of the eastern United States, and occurs westward just into Minnesota. It grows in the shade, in rich, loamy soil. It is different from white-fruited forms of the red baneberry (A. rubra) because the fruits of this species are on thick, fleshy stalks.
